Growing business: Vertigo Bikes co-owner Tim Ceci outside the new bike headquarters at the top of the gondola
A Queenstown bike rental company is opening up shop on Bob’s Peak to cater to riders when gondola access opens.

Vertigo Bikes’ rental store on Bob’s Peak will open in February to kit out mountain bikers tackling trails in the Ben Lomond Forest once Skyline Enterprises starts lugging bikes on its cableway from January 24.

Queenstown Lakes District Council will officially open eight mixed-level mountain biking tracks in the forest at the same time.

Vertigo co-owner Tim Ceci says the joint venture by QLDC and Skyline is the perfect opportunity for his company to increase its exposure.

“Summer mountain biking is becoming as trendy as bungy jumping, jetboating and rafting on the resort’s ‘big-activities’ itinerary,” Ceci says.

“Vertigo keeps at the forefront of the biking and adventure tourism industry so we immediately recognised this is as an unmissable opportunity.

“Bikes available for hire at the top will reflect what’s on hire in our Brecon Street branch – downhill, full suspension ‘Norco’ or ‘Giant’ bikes. There will also be a limited range of kids’ bikes that we’ll look to expand with demand.”

Vertigo already offers guided bike tours on its custom-built downhill Vertigo track.
